An exhibition celebrating the contemporary, cultural, built, industrial and natural heritage of our waterway.
Our Creek and the chalk streams that run through the town define its topography and account for the ancient settlements which grew into Faversham. The route of the Westbrook from just below Painters Forstal through Stonebridge Pond and Faversham Creek to The Swale will be displayed in maps down the aisle, provided by the Faversham Society opposite Ben White’s dioramas of the creek, seven of them will be on display.
Philippa Dickenson of the Creek Trust has brought together many of the creek groups to exhibit and Matthew Hatchwell has brought together local, county and national natural heritage groups. Groups all along the Westbrook, and the creek are taking part in this exhibition, too many to list here. On the big screen at the front of the church we will be showing images and movies of the sideways launches and the creek.
If you are a long-term resident of Faversham there will be much to rediscover and be reminded of and if you are new to the town there will be much to discover.
Ben White will be displaying seven dioramas – sadly now rarely seen, not to be missed.
There is growing concern in the town and surrounding villages about pollution in the Creek and other water courses. FavWat plansto to display their findings over the past two years of testing water quality t Faversham Creek and surrounding waterways. These include results for E-Coli, Phosphates, Nitrates and Ammonia. They will also be displaying information about the likely impact of their findings on the flora and fauna of the creek, as well as on human activities related to the creek.
We are grateful to the Rev Simon Rowlands and the PCC for permission to use the church to bring the town together in this celebration of Faversham. I would like to say a particular thank you to Kevin Swinney of the church who has done so much to make a success of Open Faversham and to the Faversham Society which has funded the foam boards on which many groups will be presenting their contribution to the exhibition.
