Dr Angela Websdale will give an illustrated talk about the Thomas Becket chapel presently obscured by the organ.

Come and hear how Canterbury Cathedral, the Maison Dieu at Ospringe, and the patronage of King Henry III influenced one medieval parishioner to commission a painted scheme of monumental images in c. 1307. These paintings had a direct correlation with imagery once found in Henry III’s newly built Westminster Abbey and within his royal court.

Dr Angela Websdale was awarded her doctorate by the University of Kent in 2025, where she also studied for her undergraduate and master’s degrees. She is currently working as Project Archivist for the Canterbury Cathedral Archives, where she is cataloguing the recently acquired Madeline Caviness Archive. Angela is also both historical advisor and trustee of the Maison Dieu at Ospringe.
