Guided walk on the ecology and conservation of the European eel

Itinerary for walk will be:

1. Flood Lane to Brent Road
2. Creekside footpath to swing bridge across Faversham Creek
3. Cross bridge to Conduit Street
4. Turn left, left again onto Belvedere Road, and left again to join footpath heading north along Faversham Creek
5. Follow Faversham Creek to Standard Quay, Iron Wharf beyond and then creekside gravel path as far as Thorn Creek.
6. Turn around at Thorn Creek and return to Standard Quay

Topics discussed during the walk will include:

1. Ecology of the European eel
2. The eel in European culture
3. Threats to European eels including overfishing, illegal wildlife trade and climate change.
4. Man-made barriers to the migration of eels
5. How barriers can be made more permeable to glass eels and silver eels to facilitate their migration
6. Glass eel monitoring techniques
